ABSTRACT
The main purpose of this study was defining the level of education’s efficiency in state agricultural universities in 2001-2005 by using the DEA method. The author attempted to explain the inefficiency by employing the super DEA method and DEA-based Malmquist productivity index measures. In the paper the following detailed targets were set: - to analyze technical efficiency level of education - to define the production gap - to establish a ranking of universities - to calculate DEA-based Malmquist productivity total index measure The sample covers 8 state universities, as follows: ATR Bydgoszcz (University of Technology and Agriculture in Bydgoszcz), AR Cracow (Agricultural University of Cracow), AR Lublin, AR Poznan, AP Siedlce (Podlaska University), AR Szczecin, AR Wrocław and SGGW in Warsaw (Warsaw University of Life Sciences). The value of relative efficiency oscillated between 0,950 to 0,991 and scope efficiency from 0,943 to 0,968 in 2001-2005. This study suggests that in the case of inefficient agricultural university is possible to combine more efficiently analyzed inputs and – consequently - to reallocate public funding in education in a better way.
